FAQs
How do I get started?
The first step is to request a consultation.
We talk about your training goals and what you want from Vantage, and we decide if it's a good fit
Who is Vantage for?
Vantage is for people who train seriously, whether or not they compete at an elite level. Some clients race competitively. Others are pursuing mountain objectives, endurance events or personal goals. I work most with endurance and mountain athletes: runners, ultrarunners, cyclists, mountain bikers, triathletes, ski mountaineers and climbers. Athletes from other sports are welcome, since fit depends on your needs and training context more than on your discipline.
Where can you see patients?
I'm based in Seattle and see patients by telehealth in Washington. You need to be physically located in Washington at the time of your visit. I am licensed in CA, MT, and CO as well, but not set up for telehealth there yet.
Is everything done virtually?
Vantage is telehealth. Labs are drawn at a lab site near you, and I review the results with you by telehealth visit. Some concerns need an in-person exam, imaging, specialist care or emergency treatment, and I refer you to the right facility or clinician and help you with the next step.
Do you order other testing, like DEXA, VO2 max or cardiac screening?
When it will answer a clinical question, I refer you to testing beyond blood work, such as DEXA body composition and bone density, VO2 max or lactate testing, coronary calcium scans, or movement and strength assessment. These are performed at local facilities and billed by them, and I interpret the results with you in the context of your training. Which tests make sense depends on your history, symptoms and goals.
Is Vantage primary care?
Vantage focuses on your health as it relates to your training and performance. I encourage you to keep a primary care clinician for routine and preventive care, and I coordinate with them when you want me to.
How much does it cost, and do you take insurance?
Vantage is cash-pay and does not bill insurance. The Initial Visit is $249 and includes your results visit and written report. Other visits are priced separately, and you see the price before you book. Lab fees are billed separately.
Can I bring labs I've already had done?
Yes. After you book your Initial Visit, I'll tell you how to send your recent results securely, and I'll review them as part of the visit. Results drawn within the past three weeks that include the markers your history calls for can serve as your starting point. Older results, or results missing markers I need, still go into your report with an asterisk noting what they can and can't tell us. I may suggest repeating some of them so everything is drawn under the same conditions. If you're ready to get started, bringing what you have is a good first step.
How often will I have labs drawn?
There is no set schedule. I order labs when they can answer a clinical question, based on your history, previous results, symptoms and training load. Some markers need checking once. Others are worth rechecking after a training block or a change in your plan.
What happens when my lab results come back?
I review every result with you. You receive a written summary, and we go through what the results mean, how they compare with your previous ones, what deserves follow-up and what can be left alone. The goal is for you to understand your results and know your next step.
Will you help me optimize every biomarker?
I focus on the results that matter clinically for your health and training. Reference ranges, your individual physiology and where you are in a training block all shape how I read a value, and many results call for no intervention.
Can I message you between visits?
Yes. Message me with questions about your plan or your results and I'll reply within two business days (usually sooner). A new symptom, injury or medication question calls for a visit, which you can schedule as an acute visit. For anything urgent, call 911 or go to urgent care.
What if something comes up in the middle of a training block?
Message me about your plan or results, or book an acute visit for a new symptom, injury or medication question. Because I already have your history and training context, we start from where you are.
Can you prescribe medications?
Yes, when clinically indicated. Prescribing decisions rest on your individual assessment, your history and applicable state and federal requirements.
Do you sell supplements?
Vantage does not sell supplements, take affiliate commissions or earn money from products I recommend. My recommendations come from your results and your goals.
Can you work with my coach, primary care clinician or specialists?
With your written permission, I coordinate with your coach, primary care clinician, specialists, physical therapist, dietitian or other professionals. You choose how much I share, from training-relevant guidance only to a full clinical summary. I leave training programming to your coach and make sure the clinical side understands the training behind it. When another clinician is the right person to manage an issue, I refer you.
What isn't appropriate for Vantage?
Vantage does not provide emergency care. Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, significant injury, neurological symptoms, severe allergic reactions or other potentially urgent conditions need emergency or urgent services, so call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Some conditions also require in-person assessment or specialist care and cannot be managed by telehealth alone.
